Weed Tea: the Benefits, the High, and How to Make it

Tea is a trendy bevy for all the right reasons. With the right cup of tea, you can boost your health, calm your nerves, and get cozy all at once. Tea is not only relaxing and the perfect companion to a good read but also therapeutic and loaded with antioxidants. It’s known for having the potential to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke, strengthen bones, support the immune system, and even promote weight loss. Plus, tea has half the amount of caffeine as coffee but is just as energizing.

Then, there is weed tea. Taste-wise, weed tea is still considered fairly new, but this green cup of goodness has a history. Ancient cultures would brew tea with weed to treat a variety of ailments and also used it during childbirth to help with nausea and pain. Today, plenty of people still enjoy making weed tea from the comfort of home. There are also products that come ready to serve, for those just beginning to explore the wonderful world of tea infused with weed.

Benefits of Weed Tea:

Weed tea has the same benefits as regular tea, plus more. For cannabis consumers and wellness-pursuers alike, it’s a natural way to get a dose of weed without causing harm to your lungs. It’s also discreet, flavorful, and gets you buzzed, or not; it doesn’t have to.
Weed tea isn’t bad for you, either. Some weed drinks have too much sugar, caffeine, and calories, but weed tea has less of the stuff you don’t want and more of the stuff you do. And when served straight, it’s calorie-free. Moreover, it can do some amazing things for your body and health. Here are just a few conditions weed tea may relieve:
  • Anxiety
  • Stress
  • Depression
  • Stress
  • Chronic Pain
  • Nausea
  • Gastrointestinal issues
  • Insomnia

Does Weed Tea Get You High?

Fortunately for those who want a buzz in their cup, weed tea can get you high. The effects take hold faster than edibles and are long-lasting. That’s because weed drinks, including tea, are absorbed through the liver and digestive tract. Once the effects kick in, anywhere from half an hour to 90 minutes, you can feel them for as long as eight hours, or as short as four.

How To Make Weed Tea

Of course, it’s all in how you make it. THC is not water-soluble, so if you want your weed tea to come with a kick, then decarboxylation is the most crucial step. Decarboxylation is a fancy word for extracting THC from weed using heat. It’s what happens everytime you spark a bowl.

Decarboxylation is merely spreading your bud out on a pan and popping it in the oven for a specific amount of time at a particular temperature. You can read more about the process of decarboxylation here.

You also need to mix the bud with something fatty to adequately extract the THC through decarboxylated. If you already have cannabutter or coconut oil handy, use that.

Easy Weed Tea

Making weed tea is simple. When you have cannabutter already made, it’s even better. All it takes is about ten minutes to make easy, potent weed tea to warm you up and get you stoned.

  • 1 teaspoon of cannabutter
  • 1 tea bag
  • 1 cup of boiling water
  • Milk, sugar, or other condiments of your choice (optional)

  1. Add cannabutter and tea bag to your cup of choice.
  2. Pour the boiling water into the cup.
  3. Allow the cannabutter to dissolve and for the tea bag to steep for roughly 3 to 5 minutes.
  4. Remove the tea bag, add in your favorite condiments, and enjoy!

Potent Weed Tea From Scratch

No cannabutter? No problem! Making potent weed tea the good old-fashioned way is still a cinch. It just takes a little longer.

  • 1/2 gram of weed buds
  • 1/2 teaspoon of softened butter
  • 1.5 cups of water
  • 1 tea bag (optional)
  • Milk, sugar, or other condiments of your choice (optional)

  1. Grind your weed buds and set aside any stems or seeds.
  2. Add weed buds and softened butter to bowl and mix with care.
  3. Pour water into stovetop pot on medium heat.
  4. While water is simmering, gently pour in the weed butter and brew for 30 minutes, adding in tea bag during the last 3 to 5 minutes.
  5. Allow time to cool, pour weed tea through a strainer to filter excess plant material, add in your condiments of choice, and sip on!

Stem Weed Tea

If you’re a tea drinker, then you should always save your weed stems to make weed tea. They contain little to no THC, but that doesn’t mean they’re useless. Stems are perfect if you want to make a less potent weed tea brew.

  • 1/4 cup of stems
  • 1 cup of Half & Half
  • 3 cups of water
  • 1 tea bag
  • Raw sugar
  • Honey

  1. Break up your stems by hand to make them more workable.
  2. Add the Half & Half to a pot and bring to a boil on medium-high heat.
  3. Add ground stems to the pot and boil for approximately 5 to 7 minutes, stirring often.
  4. Strain the mixture into a cup.
  5. Brew 3 cups of tea, but double the amount if needed. This will help overpower the taste of the dairy.
  6. Get your favorite large mug and pour half of your tea in and add 1/4 cup (should be half of what you made) of your Half & Half.
  7. Sweeten your tea with your condiments of choice and enjoy your delicious concoction and all of its benefits!

For a spicy and milky brew that packs a punch, there’s weed chai tea. Weed chai tea will remind you of a chai latte that you can get from an upscale coffee joint, but without all the caffeine and jitters.

  • 1/2 gram of ground cannabis
  • 1/2 gram of butter
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 bag of chai tea
  • Sugar or other condiments of your choice (optional)

  1. Blend cannabis, butter, milk, and vanilla extract in a blender until it reaches the same consistency of a milkshake.
  2. Pour water into a stovetop pan and boil at a low simmer, then add in the blended mix and stir for 30 minutes, occasionally adding more water to prevent evaporation and burning.
  3. Remove pan from heat and add in chai tea bag to steep for 3 to 5 minutes.
  4. Remove chai tea bag and strain the tea to filter excess plant material.
  5. Incorporate more condiments if you wish!

Weed Tea Without The High

Buzz-free weed tea gives you the benefits of THCA without getting you stoned. THCA is found in raw cannabis and makes for an excellent addition to your wellness routine as it not only works as an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, but also an analgesic and an anti-cancer agent, studies show.

  • 1/2 gram of cannabis leaves, stems, or buds
  • 4 cups of water
  • 1 tea bag (optional)
  • Condiments of your choice that are fat-free (no butter or milk)

  1. Grind cannabis as thoroughly as possible.
  2. Add cannabis to a metal tea ball or coffee filter and place in a mug.
  3. Boil water on low to keep cannabis from decarboxylating.
  4. Pour water and cannabis into a cup and allow 5 minutes to steep.
  5. Strain tea to remove excess plant material, then blend with regular tea and other condiments to make it tastier.
